Ever since I was little, I have grown up with dogs and I looked forward to having a dog in my own home when I got married and had a family of my own someday. Nearly three months ago I made it halfway to that dream when I married my beautiful wife on June 23. We live in a small apartment that does not allow pets so the discussion about having a dog was and is irrelevant, but that hasn’t stopped us from talking about it. Sure there has been quite a bit of back and forth going on, but I think last weekend the scales may have tilted in my direction thanks to this little pup. When I say little I mean little, as she was only a bit bigger than my shoe.
My sister’s neighbor has two dogs and one of them happened to be this adorable miniature long-haired dachshund. Never in a million years did I think that I would ever be okay with owning a dog that could fit inside of a woman’s purse, but this little pup was different. Unlike any dog that was/is owned by Paris Hilton this pup is a fighter and could hold her own. She avoided being walked on or run over by the three other dogs in the yard multiple times and didn’t back down from any of them. I guess it's not the size of the dog in the fight it’s the size of fight in the dog, or something like that.
Once my wife had the opportunity to hold her I saw her face light up and I could feel the scales tilting in my direction. How could she not want a puppy after cuddling with that adorable pooch. Sure she's little and she might not be able to catch a Frisbee, but this pup is quick and fun to watch and sure doesn’t back down from a fight. Of course the biggest obstacles she’d face would probably be my feet, but I’ll cross that proverbial bridge when I come to it.
So even though it may be a while till my opportunity of being a proud dog owner comes to fruition, I think I may be that much closer. So all you dog owners out there please share stories of your beloved canine companion. What are your best memories? I will surely be sharing them with my wife. Besides being man’s best friend a dog would definitely make great photographs as well.
